Clinic In the Community
The DFX Clinic in the Community program extends support to children, families, educators, and clinicians beyond direct interventions. It fosters inclusive environments through wraparound care, offering resources and advocacy for families in their homes, helping caregivers advocate for their children's unique needs, and partnering with schools to enhance teachers' understanding of neurodiverse children's needs. This promotes acceptance and inclusion in the community. The SWIFT-R model provides on-site consultation and mentoring for early childhood educators, improving care quality for children with developmental disabilities. The DFXConnect Resource Library offers digital and physical resources to support classroom participation. Overall, DFX bridges communication among caregivers, educators, and healthcare providers, promoting a shared vision of possibility and inclusion for every child.

DFXConnect Resource Library
~ Kim Siffring, Montview Community Preschool and Kindergarten
One of the tenets of best practice in Early Childhood is to bring in experts so your staff can learn from them. Teachers can often be more open to receiving feedback from someone who is not their direct supervisor. The teachers appreciate Erin’s professionalism and feel they can collaborate with her to understand what certain of their kids need to succeed.” Kim went further to say that her staff eagerly awaits Erin’s visits, coming to their sessions with questions and updates, and also that the insight that Erin shares often affirms what teachers are noticing in the classroom, and enables them to offer new resources to parents.
How we reach beyond the walls of our clinic...
Wraparound Care
DFX’s individualized care approach supports the entire family ecosystem by providing caregivers with resources and advocacy to understand their child's strengths and needs. Through the Wraparound Initiative, DFX offers targeted assistance to caregivers of children with complex neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions, extending support into the child's home and school environment. This initiative fosters communication among parents, educators, and healthcare providers, reducing family tension and promoting a positive, inclusive environment.
Community Partners
Several Denver schools have invited the DFX team to help teachers create inclusive environments for all students by aligning with the schools' unique cultures and goals. DFX builds trust, identifies strengths and areas for improvement, and shares insights on children's developmental, neurological, and sensory experiences to help teachers adapt their strategies. These feedback sessions support teachers in creating smoother classroom transitions and addressing challenges effectively.
Capacity Building for Early Childhood Educators: SWIFT-R
Early childhood settings often lack resources for training staff to support children with developmental disabilities. DFX addresses this with the SWIFT-R model (Supportive Web of Care for Families and Teams: Respectful, Reflective, Responsive, and Realistic), offering on-site consultation, mentoring, and access to the DFXConnect Resource Library, which provides practical digital resources in English and Spanish, books, and skill-building toys. Funded by the Caring for Denver Foundation, this program enhances care quality by equipping caregivers and teachers with the tools they need, benefiting all children, especially those with developmental disabilities.
DFXConnect Resource Library
DFX has created the DFXConnect Resource Library, through which we provide digital resources written in lay terms that offer actionable steps to address classroom situations, available in both English and Spanish.
The library also includes books, skill-building toys, and other materials that can improve children’s ability to participate more fully in classroom settings.
Ask your DFX therapist about items that might be helpful for your child or in your classroom.
Expanding Access and Inclusion
Another building block of Clinic in the Community is creating innovative, accessible resources to promote inclusion. DFX undertakes innovative projects to help families who have children living with developmental challenges feel supported in navigating public spaces. We appreciate the support we have received for these projects from Denver Community Active Living Coalition (Denver CALC), the City and County of Denver, and Developmental Pathways.
