Fall 2024 Cohort begins Sept 1st! We are eager to share The SpIRiT, our clinical reasoning tool with clinicians around the world. This course has been approved by AOTA for 1.2 CEUs. The online course includes three live, virtual cohort meetings to enhance participants' experience.
The STEPPSI: A Tool for Effective Clinical Reasoning
This course presents a clinical reasoning model for treating children who have unusual and challenging behaviors involving a lack of modulation of sensation. The understanding of treatment for individuals with sensory modulation difficulties (SM) are becoming better identified in the greater body of sensory integration theory. This course will provide an overview of the theoretical foundations of SM from occupational therapy literature and related neuroscience research. A model for planning, implementation, and monitoring treatment will be presented: Sensation, Task, Environment, Predictability, Playfulness, Self-Monitoring, and Interactions or the STEPPSI.

The intake call is the first step to starting services at DFX. The call takes about 15 minutes and it is an opportunity to connect over the phone with our client coordinator to answer questions about our programs and services and discuss your child’s particular needs. If you would like to start services in our clinic, the client coordinator will ask some questions to create a personalized chart in our electronic health records portal, called Opus. After the call, the client coordinator will send you some intake paperwork to complete.
-
-
Nope!
-
-
Complete the intake paperwork. This allows us to begin working with you and provides our therapists with a starting place of information to attune therapy goals to individual needs.
-
After speaking with you, the client coordinator will place you on a waitlist for the particular services you are seeking. Your place on the waitlist is based on the date of your call.
-
When an opening becomes available, the client coordinator will reach out to you to schedule services.
-
-
Typically, the time between when we receive your intake forms and when we can schedule your first appointment for services ranges from 1 month to 6 months.
-
The waitlist time depends on what services you are seeking and the availability of our clinicians. We generally experience an increase in requests at the start and end of the school year, so the waiting time may be longer at these times.
-
There tends to be a high demand for after-school appointments, so if this is your preference, it may take longer to schedule your first appointment.
-
Again, the waitlist for each kind of clinical service is ordered by your intake date, so please schedule an intake call ASAP.

Occupational therapists are skilled in understanding a child’s developmental level and needs by looking at their sensory, affective, and motor skills including sensory integration, postural stability, social emotional skills, and executive functioning. By identifying their underlying needs, an OT can support each child in a holistic way, in relation to their life roles and functional daily activities they participate in.

-
At DFX, speech-language therapy is tailored to each child’s specific needs, relying on evidence-based interventions and multidisciplinary collaboration. DFX believes in a total communication approach, incorporating verbal speech, nonverbal communication, gestures, sign language, and augmentative/alternative communication into therapeutic interventions.
